Traveling is incredibly stressful. As the body's largest organ, your skin is bound to take the brunt of all that stress, leading to bagginess, dryness and a lackluster skin tone. Also, since stress causes your body to produce more oil, it can cause acne breakouts and irritation. Given these problems, it's no wonder that people who do a lot of traveling for work often find that it's harder to maintain healthy, radiant skin.
So are business travelers just destined to have bad skin? Not at all. There are ways to keep your skin looking great no matter how much time you spend in the sky or on the road, and here are three of the best.
Keep Your Skin Hydrated
A majority of skin problems stem from improper hydration. Unfortunately, spending time in the pressurized cabin of an airplane can severely dry out your skin, leading to cracking, irritation, blemishes and an overall tired appearance. Plus, the stress of air travel isn't going to do your skin any favors either. So whenever you go on a business trip, make sure that your skin is properly hydrated. Apply a high-quality moisturizer the night before your trip as well as in the morning. Additionally, you should also drink water throughout your trip in order to increase your body's overall hydration.
Maintain a Balanced Diet
Healthy skin starts from the inside out. By giving your skin the vitamins and nutrients that it needs to thrive, you can keep it looking its best. Sadly, however, eating healthy while on the go can be a challenge. Snack foods aren't known for their health benefits, and prepackaged meals and sandwiches are often loaded with salt and other additives that can wreak havoc on your skin. In order to keep your skin looking great, you need to be conscious about your food intake. Pack healthy snacks before you leave, and always be on the lookout for skin-friendly food options, such as fruits, vegetables and lean proteins.
Take Time to Destress
Giving your body (and your skin) a chance to relax is essential if you want it to look great. While traveling, take advantage of any downtime you have and give yourself a break, whether that's taking a short nap on a flight or ignoring emails and phone calls while in the cab to your hotel. Additionally, exercise is a great way to relieve stress. So even when you're on the road, try to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. Your skin will thank you.
Keeping your skin looking great can be difficult even under the best conditions, and regular traveling can make it seem impossible. But by following these simple tips, you can give your skin the boost that it needs to stay looking its best no matter how much time you spend away from home.
