4 Secrets to Protecting Your Skin This Summer

Now that summertime is upon us, your skin is at an increased risk for sun exposure. Not only are you more likely to show off a little extra skin during the hot summer months, but this time of year is also when the sun's UV rays are at their most potent and damaging. If you're looking for a few simple tips to help protect your skin during this particularly challenging time of the year, then here are some techniques that will keep you safe.
Add More Hydration
During the summer, it's important to keep your skin properly hydrated. One of the easiest ways to accomplish this goal is to drink plenty of water, which will add more moisture to your system overall. Additionally, it's a good idea to eat hydration-infused foods, such as leafy greens, berries, melons, tomatoes and cucumbers. Also, you should probably invest in a moisturizer that includes vitamin B, which will help your skin to retain more hydration naturally.
Increase Your Antioxidants
As you adjust your diet to better help your skin during the summer, you should also try to increase your daily intake of antioxidants. These helpful little guys remove the skin-destroying free radicals from your system that crop up from sun exposure. Also, they can help to repair damage, heal sunburns and can increase your body's natural defenses to UV rays.
Wear Sun Protection Everywhere
You know that you need to wear sunblock during the summer, but there are some tricky areas that people often forget to cover. For example, leaving your lips openly exposed to the sun can lead to drying, cracking and discomfort. So make sure you wear a gloss or balm that has SPF protection. Additionally, when applying sunscreen you want to make sure that you get oft-forgotten areas such as the back of the neck, the ears and around the hairline, all areas that are particularly sensitive and susceptible to sun damage.
The key to helping your skin thrive in the summer is hydration. But if the topmost layer of your skin is clogged with dead cells, then the moisturizers and lotions won't be able to penetrate to the healthy skin underneath. Therefore, it's important to exfoliate at least once a week during the summer. Not only will regular exfoliation help to ensure that your skin gets the proper nutrition, but it will also keep your skin looking great all summer long.
