Can Bathing in Ramen Lead to Healthier Skin?

People are willing to go to extreme lengths to improve the health of their skin. But would you go so far as to take a bath in a bowl of ramen noodles? As odd as it may sound, that’s exactly what people are doing at a new spa in Japan.
In Hakone, Japan, there is a theme park devoted entirely to spas, where you can find restaurants, video games and even rides that celebrate the spa experience. One of the spas inside the theme park is called the Yunessun Spa and it offers a wide array of options based predominantly around food. At the Yunessun Spa, you can bathe in green tea, wine, coffee, sake and even ramen noodles.
As with any culture, food is an extremely important part of Japanese life, and recently ramen has experienced a dramatic spike in popularity. More than likely, this ramen resurgence contributed to the Yunessun Spa’s decision to include the noodle bath on its list of options. But it’s not as though the spa’s patrons just relax in an oversized bowl of noodles. In fact, that would be illegal.
In Japan, the health department has banned using edible noodles for bathing. So Yunessum Spa uses synthetic noodles inside of a pork-based broth. And even though the noodles aren’t real, there is nothing fake about the gallons of pork broth used in the baths. But why would anyone choose to bathe in ramen?
Believe it or not, prolonged exposure to a pork-broth bath could be beneficial to the health of your skin. For starters, the broth that Yunessun Spa uses is very high in collagen. Not only does collagen have reparative properties, helping to heal wounds and diminish scars, but it can also keep your skin looking healthy and firm. Additionally, some studies have shown that applying collagen topically can increase the body’s ability to create collagen on its own, increasing its effectiveness exponentially.
Along with the collagen, the ramen broth also contains a healthy dose of amino acids. According to various studies, exposing your body to amino acids helps to give your skin the nutrients that it needs to stay smooth. But amino acids do more than just help your skin. They can also improve the strength of your nails and keep your hair looking glossy and radiant.
Sure, sitting in a bowl of synthetic soup may sound odd, but if it can help to rejuvenate your skin, then maybe it’s worth a shot. Perhaps the ramen noodle bath trend will be making its way to a spa near you soon.
