The signs are everywhere, according to Stylecaster.
Calling color, hydration, texture and sensation as signs of health, the pop culture lifestyle magazine focuses on just what supple skin should really look like. The best way to detect if you’re doing right by your skin is noticing nothing at all. Aside from environmentally-related reasons, such as extreme high and low temperatures, “If you become aware of your skin because it itches, pulls, stings, or burns, that’s a surefire sign that something is up,” reports the health and beauty publication, adding “If there are visible spots and rashes to go along with the itching or burning, it could also be a skin condition like eczema or psoriasis.”
Suggesting sleep as an absolute must to healthy skin, a consistent 8-hour night will provide the rest needed for necessary skin repair. When awake, “the consistency of color in your skin is more of a tell-tale sign than the color itself, so paying attention to “any blotchy spots, light-colored, dark, or red spots,” is key according to Stylecaster.
Though “probably most notably, hyper-pigmentation,” due to stress, Stylecaster points out your point of view can affect skin health. “Even your mood can cause skin blotches,” reports the magazine. To find out if your skin is thirsty, simply test it by scrunching your face up after cleansing. If the skin feels tight that is a tell-tale sign too much cleanser is being used. Stylecaster suggests supplement cleansers with hydrating products and debunks the water myth that “drinking lots of water doesn’t really benefit your skin that much.”
“What you should do is opt for a smart moisturizer–doesn’t have to be heavy, just full of hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid,” suggests the magazine.
While the organ’s external nature is notable in regards to health, so is it inside, with “liver malfunctions, vitamin deficiencies, and conditions like diabetes,” affecting skin’s health; hence you are most definitely what you eat, according to the report.
“Your gut is a huge part of skin care, so whatever you eat generally feeds your skin—so feed it good stuff,” reports Stylecaster. Lastly, check out the products next to the sink and ask yourself if you started anything new if you notice a change in your skin. “If you have things like acne, white/blackheads, or tiny bumps called milia, your skin is probably really congested,” reports the magazine, detailing how too much of good thing like moisturizer can be bad if abused.
“Try to include a form of chemical exfoliation like using a toner with AHAs in it after cleansing to slowly melt the gunk clogging your pores,” reports Stylecaster. “Since your skin absorbs whatever you put on it, you want to make sure those pathways are nice and clean.”
Another Stylecaster report, “10 Things People With Great Skin Always and Never Do,” gets directly to what makes the biggest differences in skincare and condition. From do’s like always wearing sunblock and gently exfoliating, don’ts such as never picking at the skin or face and smoking, Stylecaster makes it clear those with good skin work for it.
