The Lux 1540 offers very similar results to the Fraxel in about the same number of treatment sessions. While some doctors claim they can achieve desired results in less time, most medical professionals agree that two to four sessions is standard for either type of fractional laser. Doctors also tend to use the Lux 1540 without topical anesthetic, although many patients prefer the medication to ensure the procedure is more comfortable.

Some of the benefits of the Lux 1540 include:

  • No need for blue dye to mark the skin before the procedure, like the Fraxel requires
  • Some doctors perform this procedure without the need for a topical anesthetic
  • Lux 1540 sessions may be offered at a lower price in some offices

The main drawback to the Lux 1540 is that it has not been around as long as the Fraxel, so data on the effectiveness of the procedure is limited. This leads many doctors to continue to offer Fraxel treatments, because they are confident of the tool's history. Since Lux 1540 is a newer tool, it is also more challenging to find a doctor with the same amount of experience with the Lux as the Fraxel.
