Elle recently asked skincare experts for tips on ways to make your morning skincare and makeup routine easier. Check out these tips to simplify your life!
Keep your skin in tip top shape
The best way to skip steps when applying makeup is to regularly take care of your skin.
“Find the right cleanser that removes oil and makeup but doesn’t dry out your skin,” dermatologist Jessica Wu told Elle. The skincare expert recommends Shu Uemura Porefinist Anti-Shine Fresh Cleansing Oil.
Wu and dermatologist Lisa Airan agree that thoroughly cleansing your face at night is crucial.
“Using a Clarisonic Skin Brush in the shower once a day can help the skin look wonderful,” Airan recommended to Elle.
Use multi-tasking skincare products
Wu suggests trying a combination moisturizer, anti-aging serum and sunscreen, like Elizabeth Arden’s PREVAGE Anti-Aging Moisture Lotion Broad Spectrum Sunscreen. Airan likes Olay Ultra Moisture In-Shower Body Lotion for all-over skincare.
Don’t treat problems you don’t have
Skincare isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, so you should evaluate what’s best for your skin, rather than using products for skin issues you don’t have. If you have very dry skin, Elle.com editor Leah Chernikoff recommends using a heavy duty moisturizer like Clinique Moisture Surge Intense. Wu suggests using a toner for acne problems.
Prioritize your makeup base
It’s essential to prioritize your makeup base, especially when you’re in a time crunch.
“Get your skin looking flawless and then zone in on a focal point, whether that’s the eyes, lips or even brows,” makeup artist Pati Dubroff told Elle. Dubroff has worked on such celebrities as Charlize Theron, Kate Bosworth and Naomi Watts.
Try enhancing your complexion with a tinted moisturizer, full foundation or concealer, then choose a feature to focus on. Dubroff recommends highlighting our eyes by smudging pencil on your upper lids’ outer corners, curling your eyelashes and swiping on mascara.
Use low-maintenance makeup
“Pick products that are easy to use and apply,” Clinique global color artist Jenna Menard suggested to Elle, adding that you should keep the number of products you use at a minimum. “Just picking up and putting down each product ends up being a lot of time.”
Dubroff comments that you should make sure to keep cosmetics neat and organized to avoid clutter. Menard’s quick picks include Clinique Even Better Compact Makeup, Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm and Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes, which she says “can be used to create a multidimensional look with just one product.”
