A Step-by-Step Guide to the Korean 10-Step Skincare Routine

Koreans are known the world over for their high standards of beauty and innovative skincare solutions. Recently, one of Korea's most popular trends – the 10-step skincare routine – has been gaining popularity around the globe. Designed to keep your skin looking young and radiant, this comprehensive, multi-phase regimen is relatively easy to incorporate into your nightly routine, and here is a step-by-step guide to get you started.
The first step is to clean the day's worth of makeup, dirt and oil from your face. For this step, use a cleansing facial oil to wipe away impurities and give your entire face a good once-over.
Just like Fight Club, the first two rules of the Korean skincare routine are the same. For round two though, you should switch to a foam or gel cleanser that is water-based. Ideally, this double dose of cleansing will ensure that your skin will be as natural as possible for the rest of the steps in the routine.
Dry skin build-up and clogged pores can lead to irritation and breakouts, so it's important to exfoliate regularly. Depending on your skin type, this step doesn't need to be included every night, but it should be done at least three or four times a week.
Not only does toner add much-needed hydration to the skin, but it also helps to reset the body's natural PH level. Just make sure that you don't use a toner that leaves your skin feeling overly tight or stings when it is applied.
In many ways, this product is the key ingredient to the whole routine. Essence has a number of different benefits, including hydration, wrinkle-reduction and improving skin tone.
You may know these products better as serums or boosters, but they are basically concentrated formulations of essence. As such, adding ampoules to your routine will help to eliminate discoloration, reduce the appearance of lines and brighten your overall skin tone.
The Sheet Mask
Sheet masks add even more hydration to your skin. Additionally, they also infuse your face with essential vitamins and proteins, such as collagen and Vitamin E.
Using a quality eye cream will not only help to get rid of crow's feet, but it can also eliminate the dark circles around the eyes that seem to intensify as the week progresses.
If you haven't figured out by now, hydration is a big part of this routine. For this step, you want to use a high-quality, heavy moisturizer that will infuse your skin with hydration while you sleep.
Finally, you want to finish off with a heavy night cream that will – you guessed it – help to lock in moisture. Conversely, if you're doing this routine in the morning, make sure you use a day cream that is loaded with SPF so you can fight off harmful UV rays.
While this regimen may seem intimidating at the outset, most people find that they can get through the entire process in less than 20 minutes. And once you see the spectacular results, you may never go back to your old nighttime routine again.
