What Are The Best Ways to Deal with Blackheads?

In the pantheon of skin troubles, blackheads are hardly the most embarrassing of blemishes. Still, they can draw plenty of unwanted attention and ruin an otherwise healthy, flawless appearance. And since we all get blackheads from time to time, it's best to know how to deal with the annoying little buggers.
But first things first. What exactly is a blackhead? As you might expect, blackheads form when the pores in your skin become clogged with oil. As this clog forms, it collects dead skin cells, bacteria, and even tiny bits of hair, and as this plug sits on the surface of the skin, the open air oxidizes it, turning the dead skin cells black. Hence the name and the telltale color.
So what are the best ways to deal with blackheads? And, perhaps more importantly, how do you stop them from forming in the first place?
Since blackheads are mostly made of dead skin cells, the best way to steer clear of them is by regularly removing the dead skin from your face. As such, dermatologists recommend that you exfoliate at least two to three times a week with a gentle, preferably all-natural exfoliant. Even if you have sensitive skin and exfoliating is difficult, try to find a milder option and use it once a week.
Beware of Facial Scrubs
Exfoliating will help you avoid blackheads, but facial scrubs may help you to get them. Sadly, many facial scrubs are packed with tiny beads or ridged particles that can actually damage your skin. These tiny areas of damage can allow bacteria and dead skin cells to collect, creating the perfect environment for more blackheads to form. So if you're going to use a facial scrub, try to find an gentle organic option, and hopefully you can avoid causing any unwanted damage.
Use a Facial Toner
How much time do you spend thinking about the pH level of your skin? Probably not much. And if you regularly use a facial toner, you'll never have to. One of the benefits of toner is that it regulates you skin's pH levels, which helps to keep it healthier and enhances the effects of your skincare products. As a result, all of the steps you take to cleanse your skin, keep it moisturized and ward off blemishes will work much more effectively.
Blackheads may be annoying, but they're some of the easiest blemishes to keep under control. Just keep your skin properly cleaned, regularly remove dead skin cells, and your blackheads will disappear before you know it.
