The dark and dreary months of Winter can often times be filled with holiday feasts and hibernation, but you should take the time to whip your skin back into shape!
The lack of sun and heat during the dark days of winter make them the perfect time of year for treatments that require some recovery time away from the sun’s rays.
Consider one of these options this winter!
Laser Hair Removal
Laser relies heavily on skin tone and shade, so being as close to your natural skin tone as possible is extremely helpful. You’ll see better, faster results when your skin is even and tan-line free.
“Laser hair removal is best to do in the winter because there is less sun exposure than other times of the year,” says New York City dermatologist Paul Jarrod Frank, M.D. According to Frank most patients generally see permanent results within four sessions, each around three weeks apart.
“The laser targets pigment, therefore having the least amount of melanin makes the treatment easier, safer, and most effective.”
Andréa Young, co-owner of Manhattan’s Beam Laser Spa, states that the majority of her repeat clients strategically book sessions to coincide with the cooler, darker months.
How Laser Works
Laser hair removal uses an intensely concentrated beam of light to zap hair follicles. The energy is focused and extremely precise, giving some incredible results to most patients. Technicians adjust laser settings for different skin and hair types, ensuring that hair removal is optimized each and every session. Regardless of skin tone.
Chemical Peels and Microneedling
Peels are skin treatments that induce cell turnover, which can act as a double-edged sword; while cell turnover is natural and healthy (and one key to radiant skin), it can also expose your skin to toxins and harsh elements.
Chemical peels leave the skin sensitive and raw because they remove the top layers of skin. As such, the treated skin becomes much more sensitive to sunlight and heat, making the winter months perfect for these types of treatments.

How Tattoo Removal Works
To break up an ink particle, you need to heat it to make it expand due to thermal expansion, but the zap has to be quick enough so that half of the particle remains cool. The opposing cool and hot forces then rip the ink particle apart.
Tattoo removal lasers, also called Q-switch lasers or ultrashort pulse lasers, are extremely hot, operate in a very narrow frequency, and are very, very fast. These pulses help to break up the ink particles, making it possible for white blood cells to transport them to the liver for elimination.
